A few days before Dr. Rob posted this, we got our local cable guy to disconnect us.

We have not had a functioning idiot box in the house for a week now!

Arunn and Lakshmi deserve a big thank you for inspiring us to do this.

I don’t know if it has been a change for the better.

I miss the morning news that I used to see while having my breakfast, but not much else. My wife is going to bed earlier than usual, not staying up to watch the infinitely rerun movie jokes and songs.

My daughter is definitely spending more time talking to us and playing with her one friend in the apartment block and her dolls. Yesterday when I reached home for lunch (late as usual, at around 3pm), the two of them had set up their kitchen sets in the corridor and were running an outdoor catering service. I got a choice of soup, noodles, chicken or dosai, which I regretfully declined. The chicken was hidden behind the bag that their toys came out of, and was offered on the sly as my daughter didn’t want her strictly vegetarian granny discovering it :)

P and I have been spending time playing chess and talking!! The score is one each in chess as of now.

I probably will have more time to blog.

I’ve spent the last two nights catching up on things happening to the other Dr. Rob, who we knew better as Flea. Is the similarity in names one of the reasons why the two Robs hit it off so well in blogland?

I like the photo of the real Flea in the Boston Globe article. He looks like the kind of Flea that I would take my daughter to. A sentiment that someone who knew him as a pediatrician in real life agrees with.

Of all the commentary that I have read on the ‘outing’ of Flea (I have not read all of them), I think I agree with Dr. Dino’s two posts the most. Some days ago she had commented on my post on Flea’s disappearance with a link to her opinion posted on her blog. I liked Moof’s comment on that particular post.

The Curmudgeon’s response to N=1’s post offers a different perspective.

And I also agree with Kevin’s opinion that “Eric Turkewitz called it correctly.”

Finally here are my personal views on this….

I think the way Medicine is practiced in the USA sucks. There is no point in having the world’s most sophisticated treatment protocols and equipment if the individuals who use the facilities for the betterment of their fellow men are forced to act with semi-tied hands constantly looking over their shoulders for lurking lawyers.

Contrary to popular belief (and I’m sure most doctors would agree with me) Medicine is not an exact science.

It is nowhere near an exact science. A true scientist from another field would be horrified at the number of times things go right or wrong in Medicine without any explanation.

It isn’t an ‘Art’ either.

We do the best that we can do with the best possible intentions.

Shit happens. Often.

Flea or Dr. Rob, I personally think what happened to you was a shame. I’m happy that I knew you through your blog. And I hope you will keep in touch with your many friends in the blogosphere.
