A Compelling Story.
Published by Vijay December 14th, 2007 in Blogging, Medical blogs, Other BloggersThis is to direct your attention to a compelling real life story that was the subject of this week’s Dr. Anonymous Show - a radio show on Blog Talk Radio hosted by medical blogger Dr. Anonymous.
Here is what the host has to say…
One of the reasons I started a radio show was to talk with people and have them share their stories - and this is a compelling one. This is a show that you need to listen to. There’s a lot of crap on television that is called “reality TV.” But, boys and girls, this is real life.
On this week’s episode of the show (you can listen to / download the archive here) “MexicoMedStudent tells his story of how his medical school is kicking him off campus and destroying his dream of becoming a doctor.”
Read this post by Enrico aka Mexico Medical Student for some background.
His story proves what all of us doctors know. And it seems to be a Universal Truth.
Medical students are pawns, the lowest on the totem pole, at the base of a huge healthcare pyramid and are periodically made aware of the fact that they are a form of lowly insects. [I think I implied the same thing in this post]
What makes his situation very different is the fact that this is not a typical young Indian kid - in his teens, just out of high school - who doesn’t know the difference between school and college.
Enrico is a young man on his second career. He is pursuing his dream to become a doctor after having worked for a while in the computer industry after college.
I think I’ll have some more to say after I think about this a bit.
PS: I would like to place on record my intense loathing for TNEB and their execrable, atrocious habit of cutting off power supply when you really need it. I woke up early (well 7 AM seemed early to me) to listen to the show live and had the pleasure of being rudely blacked out twice during the show. I gave up after the third power cut within a span of 25 minutes.
