    Hi!
Just want to to drop you a hello as I am new to your blog. Interesting. I’m currently listening to your Episode 2 Podcast. I am originally from the Philippines. And coming from a multilingual country and family, I quite identify with the many tongues that surround us when we speak English. :-) Many thanks for sharing and all the best!

    Vijay! Excellent job! :)
You know - that’s one of my favorite stories. Each time I hear it, I get more out of it than the time before. Thanks for going through all of that trouble!

  3. 3 Vijay

    Thanks Karina & Moof.

I enjoyed listening to your story Vijay! Thanks for telling it to us.

    Thanks Ramona.
My wife heard this podcast. She thought it was good. Surprising ;)

Vijay that was great. An amazing story but also I loved the photos and your little avatar in between. I tried to make it full screen but could not. It loaded automatically in Quicktime. I don’t know if you could load it something else which would become larger.

It’s interesting to hear you say that all arranged marriages are not successful. In fact I would imagine that to be so, since even half of all self-chosen couples divorce. I’m very glad that yours worked out successfully. Would you have been able to refuse if you had decided that? Of course there are arranged marriages here in Canada in the Indian community but I wonder how many generations will continue that. I suspect it will fall away in the third and fourth although I did work with people, born in Canada, whose marriages were arranged.

Thanks JMB. The images in the ‘enhanced podcast’ are preset at 300 x 300 pixels. They look good in the iTunes album artwork viewer. Same in QuickTime. You probably would not have seen the links to all the places that I mentioned. I noticed that the link text was in a color which merged with the feet of my icon avatar. The links become very obvious in iTunes.

Of course many arranged marriages fail. Most young couples don’t even get the amount of time that we got to spend with each other - either on the first day or during the engagement, which is usually a very short affair. There is a lot of resistance to arranged marriages nowadays. But it isn’t yet a flood which will wash away the traditional practices.
About my situation, I guess my parents would have accepted if I had refused. But I didn’t want to. I liked what I saw of Priya on that day. And I grew to like/love her more over the long engagement period.

I got a call from a couple of my classmates in Australia. They listened to this and had a good laugh over it though they already know the story. Encouraged by that, I’ve sent out an email to most of my other friends, who are either blissfully ignorant of this blog, or chose to ignore it.

    Dear Vijay

I did not know this story before. It is really interesting. You have done it very well, narrated clearly with interesting special effects. You will be an expert soon. Nice to hear your friendly voice and a thrilling story after a tiring and depressing day at work. Keep up your work.

  9. 9 Vijay

Hey Ramki thanks for the visit & the nice words.

    Hey da,
That was a beautifully narrated episode.Your split second decisions on that day had in fact put you on the right path. That’s the custom over here. But not all are lucky. I bet if the family history (that’s what we rely upon mostly) is good we stand a good chance of getting a better partner. But never debate on it, it never ends.

  11. 11 Karty

    Thats cool stuff, macha.

Saravana & Karty: Thanks for commenting. I knew you guys would listen to the podcast, but I did not expect comments! I’m pleased though.

And a very happy birthday to you Saravana.

  13. 13 Saravana

    Thank you vijay.

Oh Vijay, if I were you, I would have fallen like a ton of bricks for her the moment I laid eyes on the conventional, sareeclad, flower wearing woman.. considering how beautiful she is even without the alankaram, I can imagine how gorgeous she must have been.
In my case, we had a “reverse” ponnu paarkal, where I crossed continents to “see the boy”. Of course I had already been smitten with Arunn’s emails to me.

    Hi Vijay,

Very nice to hear your voice after all these years.
Your story was nice to listen to especially with the visual effects.
Priya is beautiful. Hope to listen to more interesting stories from scan man’s notes.

Thanks Reena. I’ll notify if when there is a new episode.
