iPhone 3G Voice and Data Plans from Vodafone India.

Now that Vodafone officially announced the price of iPhone, a local rep. shared details about the different tariff plans available for Vodafone customers of iPhone in India. Unlike BlackBerry, Vodafone offers no “unlimited data” plan for iPhone users. That means if you exhaust your monthly data usage limit, be prepared to shell out an extra Rs 5 per MB of data exchanged. The monthly rent for iPhone will range from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 depending on your Internet requirements. The lower plan will provide you with 50 MB of free data usage while the upper 1000 plan provides 600 MB of data usage.

Let’s do some maths. If you are heavy web user, the overall cost would work something like this - Rs 36000 (for handset) + Rs 12000 (yearly rent) + Call Charges + Extra data charges + Taxes.

Contrast that with a BlackBerry Curve from Airtel - Rs 23000 (for headset) + Rs 6000 (yearly rent with unlimited data) + Call Charges + Taxes.  [US$ 1 = Rs. 44.5 at present]

Yet another reason NOT to buy the iPhone till its base price comes down to a sane level.

Thank goodness — finally someone on my side against the i-Phone. Just got the new Blackberry Bold scanman. The thing is fantastic. My IT is using the i-Phone right now so I’ve played with both and the blackberry wins hands down. Unless your sole purpose is to surf the net on the phone, the BB is much more ergonomic and the screen resolution just as good.

    All the best. Ian.
